30A - Seagrove 5

On January 7, 2011, an earthball expanded to 11 cm (see photo above). I discovered it Jan. 1 at the SE corner of 30-A and May Drive, called Excavation . The four twin earthballs on the same bank farther east are thriving. These sites are on the fringes of developed areas, overlooked by mowers and inconvenient for trucks driving off-road. All these earthballs have been in fine form on Jan. 14, 21, and 28.

This earthball was the largest and longest lasting of this season. See Oct. 30, Nov. 9, Nov. 13, Chapel earthball update (Dec 24, 2010 and Jan 1, 2011), Dec 24 and Jan 1 continued, and Puffball Watch, 2010-2011.
