This snowy plover (SNPL) is called B:S//RK. It is named after the colored ID bands on its legs.
B is for blue band on the left ankle.
: is between the legs.
S is for silver. Jeff Talbert describes it: "The silver is usually called 'service'. It's a metal band that actually has a unique number embossed on it. The S band is almost always on the upper part of the leg.
// is for the knee.
RK is for Red and Black bands.
Band colors that I have seen are B G K O R S W Y. Blue, Green, Black, Orange, Red, Silver, White, Yellow.
