

On Dec. 5, 2008 I found many mature earthstars (earth stars) growing in the same small area with an unfamiliar type of lichen. I called them "puffballs" because of their appearance. They have a puff ball structure within exterior husk, like an earthball. The lower picture shows how they deteriorate. Since then I've found them on the site discovered on 2009-01-16 contingent to Pt. Washington State Forest and many more. See more about earthstars below.
