{Back to top of page}People stopped at 7 p.m., creating a wave of candlelight and silent vigil for peace around the world for 24 hours. As people carried the light in each timezone starting with New Zealand, it had been going about 17 hours when it was our turn. 14 people met at the Landing in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA. We shared umbrellas and helped relight candles blown out by the wind, as well as a fervent wish for peace, despite the grinding sound of helicopters from the nearby air force base.
