Deer Lake State Park beach stretches for 1/2 mile on the Gulf of Mexico. Between the lake inoutfall to the west and the dune crossover ramp stairs to the east is what I call Blessings Beach. Walking at dawn this year revealed three treasures.
- Least Tern Colony — FWC biologists marked it with yellow signs
- Snowy Plovers — Audubon shorebird overseer and FWC bird-bander identified the one nest
- Willets — Five together
For an overview without Willets, see Deer Lake State Park 6-11-15 on YouTube or Vimeo. Other wildlife includes ghost crabs, great blue herons, sanderlings, brown pelicans, and a variety of sea gulls.
