Purple Light, 2008

On the first Sunday after the first full moon after the March Equinox, 2008, at 7:30 in the morning, I found purple iris blooming in the swales along the bike path and turned to find purple light projected by the rising sun in the wings and curtains of Deer Lake State Park, north of Scenic 30A. I didn't know that the little lens of my new Pentax Optio W30 camera creates vertical purple bands when light is glaring. See the movie: QuickTime or Flash.

I also didn't know that in Greek mythology, Iris is rainbow, a messenger of the gods. The flower is probably a blue flag (Iris virginica), a native planted and cared for by WaterSound gardeners.
