computer noise, vertical QTVRs

Computer noise. Or is it art? Or is it a lively act of collaboration within the world of people and computers?

The two images are the opening frames of QTVR (QuickTime VR) movies. You view most QTVR movies horizontally. These movies are different, in that you view them vertically. When loading a vertical movie, the computer makes noise. That is, it either is unable or unwilling to display the correct image and displays crazily colored patterns instead. Is it crazy? Or is it crazy like a computer? The next pages show animations of three different loadings of each movie. You'll see that each time the movie loads, the noise patterns are different. Click either image to see some noise for that movie.
