"My name is Wayne Rohrs, I am writing to inform you that I am the recipient of the Leo Geary Memorial Trophy for 2009.

This year the New Zealand Nationals were held at Wanaka. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate as well as we would have liked, and we only flew 2 tasks out of 9 days. The wait was worth it though, with the weather coming right on the last day for a task up the valley from Treble Cone and then back to Wanaka. I am based in Auckland and had not flown in the South Island before, so the flight through the mountains was mind-blowing. I was torn between admiring the scenery, taking photos and concentrating on the flying. I managed to break all my personal bests and landed with a grin from ear to ear.

I am inspired to continue flying in competitions and hope to return to Wanaka for some more mountain flying soon.
