Sparrow, a Maplewood Memorial Library Frit Symbol

In the new Maplewood Memorial Library I'm drawn to a bird-warning window story: a FRIT. The images face outward, for birds to read.

The windows are fritted with a special pattern that prevents birds from flying into the windows and increases energy efficiency by reducing cooling costs. Special iconic panels honor local plants and animals. On January 9, 2026 I found two FRIT IDs.   

SPARROW. . There was a large group of these birds on the grass.

Mallard, a Maplewood Memorial Library Frit Symbol

MALLARD  I saw six mallard ducks. Four were on the Rahway river, sleeping, and two were in the pond, eating. YouTube video.
