Partial lunar eclipse start

Deer Lake and Lunar Eclipse Over the Gulf

This is the very start of a partial lunar eclipse on June 4 before dawn. Moonlight is reflected from the Gulf of Mexico and the inoutfall of Deer Lake.

Later that day the moon aligned with the galactic center and the next day was a rare transit of Venus (June 5). This photo is at 5:08 a.m. CDT. The eclipse maxium at 6:04 a.m. was not visible here.

The background image is white sand made of quartz crystals that is gray or neutral when wet. See images 2009, total lunar eclipse 2014, and Deer Lake State Park.
