Deer Lake State Park outflow, standing waves

Water of a NW Florida coastal dune lake connects to the Gulf of Mexico, interchanging fresh and salty mixtures between land and sea. This rare kind of connection is variously called an inlet, outlet, outfall, outflow and so on. No one name describes the complex interaction of waters. This picture shows the weaving conflicted currents, sometimes standing up in mini surf crests as in meets out. The white sand is marbled by the wave action and dark silt.
