Thru-hikers Salty, Sara and Duke headed west on the Florida Trail

Thru-hikers Salty, Sara, and Duke. This is why we do this work.

Florida Trail - Re-blazing on Nokuse

On the Florida Trail Choctawhatchee Chapter, Nokuse section Trail Hog Field Day March 11, 2014, volunteers maintained a section of the trail. The seven workers split into two teams. I went west with four of them. Tom went ahead, brushing the trail with a lopper, removing vegetation that has grown into the trail corridor. Then came Larry with a scraper and wire brush to prepare old blaze surfaces for painting. Following came Tim with blazing sponge and paint, renewing each blaze along the trail. Some blazes had to be moved or removed. Bruce followed, lopping, but also with a pocket saw removing tripping hazards such as stobs from the treadway.

On the way we met thru hikers. They were glad to learn how blazes were done. We're happy to see feet on the trail. I posted their photo to Florida Trail on Facebook. They shared it saying they had seen Salty, Sara, and Duke off in January.
