symbol flipping

Faith Symbol

The Faith Symbol stained glass window shows front and back of an ancient four-armed glyph. Spirals turn both right and flipped to turn left, above and below. In 1966 Gene Metz and Charles Champlin commissioned me to make this panel for their San Francisco residence.

Note that two of the spiral arms are clearly etched into glass pieces - in the top figure upper left and bottom figure upper right. The other spirals are suggested by the movement of colors.

En route from New York city, briefly encountering a stained glass studio in southern California, Pasedena, I lived in Altadena overlooking Los Angeles and looking up to the mountains. I soon went on to San Francisco, bringing the window with me.

The next glass work was a design for the Hall of Justice in San Francisco.
