See Monte Rio drawings.In November, 1979, my friends' son was murdered. He was living at the San Francisco Zen Center and was out walking, bringing music to a friend, when he was stabbed. The drawing is labeled © Caroling Thanksgiving 1979. His rakusu is part of a temporary sculpture called Owlgate. The rakusu is a miniature robe representing Buddha's robe. Chris sewed it in preparation to take Zen precepts. It is inscribed with his spiritual name, Chiku Jo Ho Zan, Bamboo Serene Phoenix Mountain, written by the teacher. .
