Camp Helen State Park - Cladonia ochrochlora

The zooming image above photographed 2009-01-25 in Camp Helen State Park. The GPS coordinates are 30°16'35.9"N 85°59'19.8"W. Alternatively, a medium, or small image.

On January 25, 2009 I found another type of lichen that I had not seen before, tentatively identified as Cladonia ochrochlora. This image shows the most dense patch of it growing on the side of a bank.

This page (http://waynesword.palomar.edu/pljan98c.htm#ochrochlora1) shows a lichen like this. This page (http://bcbiodiversity.homestead.com/fruticoseclub.html) says Cladonia ochrochlora is similar to Cladonia coniocraea. It does look like a close match.

Adobe Flash 9+ required. If you don't have it, get it get flash (free). If you need to upgrade, do so. To use, click on the viewer controller bar, or use keyboard arrow keys.
