The Red Cedar Nature Trail at Rocky Bayou State Park has open vistas of florest floor carpeted in deer lichen under towering trees. It is in Okaloosa County, NW Florida, east of Niceville on Hwy 20. The zooming image above was photographed 2009-04-05. See another image and video of this deer lichen (choose Flash or QuickTime) on a walk on the trail. See also the travel section for the park featuring a video of a walk to a steephead.
On May 2, 2009 wholeo.net hosted a deer lichen display and lead a hike as part of the Choctawhatchee Estuary Family Festival. See a map of the Red Cedar Nature Trail for the hike. See a FAQ handout.
