This page is for more video clips and images, many identifying specific plants. Here is the SWCC description of the Back to Nature 2006 event:
Spring 2007, revisited.State Forest Walk and Talk
1-2:30 p.m.
Saturday, October 21
Take a fun and informative hike through the varied natural habitats of the Pt. Washington State Forest. Identify the fall-blooming wildflowers that grow amid the native plant communities of sandhills and flatwoods, and learn firsthand the vital role of fire in keeping these habitats healthy. The hike is led by Christian Wagley and horticulturist Snookie Parrish. Meet at the Eastern Lake Trail parking area, on the east side of Hwy. 395.Videos
- Forest Walk Painting from the Pt. Washington walk.
I'm fascinated by slow motion imaging. It's like abstract expressionist painting with the camera (with impressionist splashes). Above are some shmooshes and slurs as freeze frames caught from the walk in the woods. These videos are all the same with varying quality and ability to be viewed with your software and hardware setup. The iPod is the best and biggest. The QuickTime h.264 is next best. The smaller and Flash should work for most, but you might need to wait for download and play it twice.
- QuickTime h.264 (13 MB, version 7+) or smaller MPEG-4 (12.6 MB, version 6+)
- Flash (12.8 MB, version 7+)
- iPod (29.8 MB)
- Forest Walk Talks in the Pt. Washington State Forest.
Here are short clips featuring topics that came up on the walk. The first two, by Snookie Parrish, are about specific plants: Summer Farewell and Saw Palmetto. The second two, by Christian Wagley, are in general, about the St. Joe Company and Sandhill Community ecology. Choose between two sets, Flash for lower-end.
- Flash 7+
- Summer Farewell (2.4 MB)
- Saw Palmetto (3.6 MB)
- St. Joe Company (8 MB)
- Sandhill Community (3.6 MB)
- QuickTime 7+ (requires more computer processing power and latest, as of 2006, QuickTime)
- Summer Farewell (2.2 MB)
- Saw Palmetto (3.6 MB)
- St. Joe Company (7.7 MB fuzzy)
- Sandhill Community (3.5 MB)
Images - slide show
See a slide show of the main plants and sights from the walk and talk. Many images still need to be identified. I'm calling on the walk leaders and experts to help with this information. These images are captured from a full-length video of the walk. Choose from an interactive Flash presentation, that has a list of all images or plain pages. Here's a test image to see if you know it all already or learned something from the slide show.
