2009 Buckminster Fuller Challenge

Getting ready to see the Buckminster Fuller retrospective show at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC, which opened in June, 2008, I found the Buckminster Fuller Institute at bfi.org. Seeing the movie for the challenge drew me in, I just can not say no. Watch the movie, shown below. What do you think?

I won't formally enter the competition because there is a fee, but I will complete an entry and publish it here on Wholeo.Net. Entry dates are from September 18 - November 7, 2008; see the challenge.bfi.org page. Last year's entries that I saw in the Idea Index had no movies, another problem with entering. True, entry is by a total of 1000 words and six images. Here is what I remember most from the movie:

If success or failure of this planet and of human beings depended on how I am and what I do, how would I be? What would I do? The final examination is whether Human Beings qualify to take on the responsibility we've been designed to be entrusted with. Does the individual have the courage to really go along with the truth? Think about the design revolution to do more with less.

I pondered my entry. Perhaps you did too. As of September 24, 2008, Google announced Project 10^100, an alternative lookalike challenge. Here is a comparison of the two from my point of view. On October 19 I discovered a third alternative lookalike challenge that started two weeks previously: SuperStruct sponsored by the Institute for the Future. Generally its format seems to include the other two from theme to prizes and entry is via an intriguing online game. I don't look for challenges; these came to me, so how many must be out there unknown to me in this challenging time? I'm entering Google on Oct. 20 (see Study #8), since it is free, but development continued for the Fuller Challenge. On November 7, I'll join SuperStruct, which closes on November 17.
