dome views

Yet another look at Wholeo Dome? What's new? Isn't this a look back? Although I'll probably obsess Wholeoly for life, here are some reasons for apparent stuckness.

Technically, I've got a new looker - a sharp wide angle lens (10-22 mm on digital SLR camera), which gets more of the view in a single picture, without the blur of an 8mm fisheye lens. Aesthetically, this was a good time to record the dome as originally installed in The Farm setting. It is after the construction fence was removed and before repairs to 12 damaged panels, which will inevitably change the dome. If the dome goes down, this is its last stand. turtle info
Hurricane Dennis surged onto the beaches of South Walton county and took away much. Dunes appear in profile, as if cut in half, with plants and roots trailing. Dune walkovers, made of wood, are torn off and scattered up and down the coast. Houses collapsed, septic tanks were yanked from pipes and broken apart. Many beaches lost all sand, scoured down to glum clay, dank and seeping. My photos are here. A local source is http://sowal.com/photos.html. Look at 7-09-05 and days afterwards. color

On a lighter, more colorful note, wdatfs Study 5, Color in Wholeo Dome, choice of QuickTime or Flash.

Wholeo DomeHurricane Dennis scared me out of Florida on a trip to Tennessee. I went to finish installation of Wholeo Dome at The Farm School by cleaning guide lines from the interior. The glass was stoned by vandals last November. Unfortunately, the panels had not been stabilized with contact paper inside and out. Glass was falling out. Leadlines sagging. Soon the damage would be beyond repair. Goodbye Wholeo Dome. People heard my message and began work in the school studio. I took photos and movies, let go, and hope for the best.

Updated the dome location photos, showing the construction fence removed. Clarified that the dome is part of the Hippie Museum virtual collection.

turtle trackIn 2002, three years ago, I saw the tracks of a turtle who had come ashore, laid her eggs, and returned to the Gulf of Mexico. Now I'm keeping the photo tracks of her track. Other impressions are gathering in a surreal assembly. The movie takes place in a brain cavity. The cast includes a water spirit, a void of praying hands, and a moonscape. Today there are some images as preview.

The World Wide Panorama project on the theme Water opened July 5. A couple of favorites are the flying carpet and the fireflies.

bowl treesAdded Macromedia Flash versions of last week's entry, "Dissolving Earth and Sky". The 17 photos are like looking out the spokes of a wagon wheel from the hub to the rim, viewing the Grayton Beach hammock. The Flash movie plays, rotating with dissolve transitions. An interactive version lets you drag the movie around, as in the QuickTime VR version. I got how-to tips from a tutorial at actionscripts.org. Thanks guys! Dragging a slider at the top, you can see how far you have turned around the circle. Added some new buttons for more control of your (hopefully) rich viewing experience.
